Game Nine: Stanford 1, Washington 0
In yet another pitchers' duel in the 2023 Women’s College World Series, Stanford’s NiJaree Canady came out victorious against Washington’s Ruby Meylan, striking out nine batters in a one-hit shutout.
No offensive action occurred until the sixth inning when Stanford's Kylie Chung sent a floater into left field, driving in Taylor Gindlesperger.
Meylan was just as impressive as Canady, giving up four hits and finishing with five strikeouts, but the Huskies’ offense couldn’t break through. Washington ended its season with the loss, concluding its 15th WCWS appearance.
As for Stanford, it will take a trip to the program’s third national semifinals and first since 2004. The Cardinal will play Oklahoma on Monday and will need to win twice to advance to the championship series. The first game will air on ESPN at 12 p.m. ET.
Game 10: Tennessee 3, Oklahoma State 1
After being run-ruled in a loss to Oklahoma on Saturday, Tennessee bounced back and is headed to the national semifinals for the first time since 2013.
Fifth-year pitcher Ashley Rogers saved her arm after not pitching in Saturday’s contest and came out ready to battle. She threw a complete-game against Oklahoma State, giving up one run on four hits and striking out four batters.
In a thrilling third inning, the bats were certainly hot for the Vols, as Zaida Puni doubled to deep left field, scoring Kiki Milloy. Rylie West then singled to left, sending Brylee Mesusan in to tack on another run.
Defense got away from OSU in the fifth inning when the team made its third error of the night. After West stole second, Puni scored on a throwing error by OSU’s catcher, Taylor Tuck, extending Tennessee's lead over the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls arrived on the board late in the sixth inning when Morgyn Wynne hit a solo home run off of Rogers, but OSU couldn’t find any additional momentum to pull off the win.
The Vols will take on Florida State on Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and will also have to win twice to advance to the championship series.
