As Softball America grows its coverage at all levels, we continue our recruiting spotlight series with Kaileigh Byars. Byars is currently ranked 45th in our 2025 position rankings as the Virginia native is committed to South Carolina as an outfielder. The two-time PGF national champion is a force at the plate as well, usually supplying home runs and RBIs in the cleanup position.

What about South Carolina did you love the most?

What I love most about South Carolina has to be the people. They are some of the nicest and most genuine people you’ll meet. They’re the ones that create the family atmosphere that I was looking for in a school.

What is your favorite travel ball memory?

Winning PGF Nationals two years in a row.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from a coach?

I’ve learned so much, but one of the most important things was how to handle adversity because that applies in the real world as well as on the field.

How did you get interested in softball?

Both of my parents played and they’re the ones who introduced it to me. After that, I fell in love with it and knew I wanted to play in college like the girls I idolized on TV.

What are your strengths as a player? What are you trying to improve on the most?

My defensive ability is definitely one of my strengths and I have pretty good power, though my swing is always a work in progress. Right now the biggest thing I’m working on is a couple of tweaks with my swing and my throwing.

What player(s) do you look up to the most?

Honestly, I don’t truly have a player I look up to, but I try to be a person that others will look up to.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball?

I love working out and hanging out with friends and family. Plus, I like to take naps whenever the opportunity arises.

What excites you the most about playing college softball?

I can’t wait for the crazy competitive competition and the connections that I’ll make with my teammates. Also, I’m hoping that I’ll have a shot to make it to the Women’s College World Series.
