As Softball America grows its coverage at all levels, we continue our recruiting spotlight series with Melody Acevedo. Acevedo is currently ranked 28th in our 2025 position rankings as the California native is committed to the University of Washington. With impeccable technique, a solid arm, and great range, she brings talent to shortstop and the plate.

What about Washington did you love the most? 

I loved how they weren’t just a team but a family. They play together to win.


What is your favorite travel ball memory? 

I have many memories I love but my favorite has to be when I hit a game-winning home run and my whole team ran out of the dugout to meet me at home plate. Then they carried me back to the dugout.


What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from a coach?

The most important thing I’ve learned from a coach is after making an error brush it off and come back louder and more confident.


How did you get interested in softball? 

My parents put me in softball when I was five and since then my love for softball just grew.


What are your strengths as a player? What are you trying to improve on the most? 

My strength is that I have a good mental game in the sport. I know how to leave the past in the past and move forward. I am trying to improve on getting stronger and better every day.


What player(s) do you look up to the most? 

I’ve looked up to Sis Bates all of my softball life. I love the way she always looked like she was having fun and how confident she played.


What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball? 

My favorite hobby outside of softball is teaching my dogs new tricks.


What excites you the most about playing college softball? 

I’m most excited to learn from some of the greatest to play and coach. I’m excited to go in and help my team win and make memories.
